Tour of Arkansas debuts
In a year where several American races like the Tour of America, Tour de Toona, and Tour of Virginia have either been canceled or are scaling back, several new events have stepped up their game. One such event is the Inaugural Tour of Arkansas. Two events, the former Tri-Peaks Challenge and the Celebrity Classic have joined forces to create the new event.
Organized primarily by the Mercy Cycling Team, the 2008 event will start three days after the Joe Martin stage race in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Tour will be located primarily in Russellville – just 90 minutes from Fayetteville. These back to back events will enable the riders to participate in two quality stage races in the same state in the same week.
The race will include four stages over four days for elite men, and three stages over two days for elite women.
Stage Details: Stage 1: Epic Road Race: 110 Miles. 10,500+ feet of climbingStage 2: Dana Merrit Park - Mt. Nebo. 98 Miles, 5,500+ feet of climbing. Stage 3: Mount Magazine road race. 97 Miles, 6,600+ feet of climbing. Stage 4: Van Buren Criterium

CHICAGO PASSES ORDINANCE TO PROTECT CYCLISTS -- According to the Mar. 24th American Bicyclist Update, "Chicago cyclists are cheering passage of a significant local ordinance promising much greater protection from motorists. The legislation* -- endorsed by the Mayor and city Department of Transportation -- was passed on March 12 and prohibits opening a door into moving traffic; sets a three-foot minimum passing distance; increases fines for parking in a bike lane or marked shared lane; and prohibits motorists from turning right in front of a bicyclist. The ordinance sets a minimum fine of $500 when these actions lead to a bicycle crash. The provision was a major goal of the 2015 Bike Plan, and was backed enthusiastically by the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation."

hello, you're on the "kim west radio cycling show"

i racked up some serious chamois time tonight, boys and girls, and at the same time, i got to talk bicycling with a few real bicycle racers. my producer, dave, arranged studio time at who/kxno, and walked me through the process of radio 101. three hours later, i've got 88 minutes of conversation covering the iowa cup, women's racing, group rides on trails, and about 45 minutes of story time with bob mionske.

we don't go on the air for real for about three weeks, but i am really very excited about it. as soon as i figure out this new software, i'll edit some of it down and post it here.
